International students
To be eligible to enter the 90 credit point program, applicants
must have completed a three year post-secondary professional
nurse education program and must be eligible for registration
as a nurse in the country in which they qualified. Applicants
who have completed other nurse education programs will be
assessed on an individual basis according to their education
and experience, in order to determine an appropriate program
of study within the Bachelor of Nursing course.
Minimum English language proficiency requirements
for entry to undergraduate Nursing courses are:
-IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with
an overall score of 6.5, including an individual score of
6.0 for all tests; or
-TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 575
and TWE 5.0, or a computer-based score of 230 with an essay
rating of 5.0
Professional Recognition: Upon successful
completion of the Bachelor of Nursing course graduates are
eligible to seek registration as Registered Nurses with the
relevant State Nurse's Registration Authority.

The course aims to prepare graduates for
an advanced role in clinical and health education. The course
will encourage graduates to reflect on their clinical experience
and further prepare them to design, implement and evaluate

Students who complete the Master’s level
course will have opportunities to gain a deeper understanding
of issues that effect on their selected nursing specialty.
The course will enable graduates to develop skills to structure
practice environments that facilitate quality, innovation
and leadership in advanced nursing specialty practice. The
course is designed to provide 40 credit points of study additional
to the Graduate Diploma course. The Master of Clinical Nursing
course has multiple entry and exit points at the Graduate
Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Master levels. The courses
have been arranged so that they articulate with each other
to provide maximum flexibility for students. Where there is
sufficient student demand nursing specialties will be offered
at the campuses indicated.
MASTER OF NURSING LEADERSHIP

The course focuses on leadership development
as well as offering students the opportunity to study theory
and research, issues, challenges and strategies relevant to
contemporary nursing and nursing leadership. The course will
stimulate and enhance students’ inquiry into critical issues,
trends, and innovations in nursing and health care, including
ethical, moral and social justice dimensions, and prepare
graduates for nursing leadership in varied community and institutional
health care contexts.

Bachelor of Nursing
This course provides a broad foundation for
professional nursing practice and prepares students to practise
as registered nurses. Graduates will be able to meet the nursing
needs of people of all ages and have the ability to practise
safely and with sensitivity in any area of nursing.
Clinical nursing practice is an essential
component of the course, enabling students to apply knowledge
and skills from the theoretical units to the nursing care
of individuals, families and groups in hospitals and community
settings in the ACT and surrounding districts. Only students
admitted to this course will be able to undertake those units
involving clinical practice.
Course Duration: 7 semesters full-time
Admission Requirements: Applicants must
have completed year 12 or similar level of study and meet
normal University requirements for admission to an undergraduate
course. Applications are considered from Enrolled Nurses who
may not have completed Year 12.
Additional requirements: All students in
the Bachelor of Nursing course are required to undergo a Police
Record Check prior to undertaking clinical experience in the
community. All students are also required to present an immunisation
history.

BACHELOR OF NURSING (Pre-Registration)
Course length: Three years full-time.
Combined degrees program:

Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites
and no knowledge is assumed.
Graduate entry
Course length: Two years. Not available as part of a combined
degrees program.
Prerequisites: A recognised undergraduate degree in a discipline
other than nursing.

GRADUATE-ENTRY: Graduate-entry students complete
an accelerated two-year program.
ENROLLED NURSES: The course also is available
to Enrolled Nurses who wish to become Registered Nurses. Some
credit may be given for prior learning.
FITNESS FOR PRACTICE: Students undertaking
topics that require a clinical placement must meet the requirements
of the School to demonstrate fitness for practice. They are:
Students make a self-declaration as to their fitness to practice
to the course coordinator, topic coordinator or principal
academic. Where there is a pre-existing illness or disability
such that their ability to practice is impaired, they will
advise the topic coordinator so that where possible a modified
placement that will still meet the objectives of the topic
can be arranged in consultation with the student.
WHAT JOBS WILL I GET?
Graduates are eligible for registration with the Nurses Board
of South Australia as a Registered General Nurse. The program
also is recognised interstate.
As well as traditional roles in hospitals,
nurses are employed by a variety of agencies, including community
health centres, aged care centres, community nursing services,
local councils, industry and rural and remote settings. New
graduates usually are employed in an acute care hospital setting
and many go on to specialise in other areas such as mental
health, midwifery, paediatrics and palliative care.
PROFESSIONAL ENTRY PATHWAYS
Two pathways within the undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing
are designed for registered nurses. Both require one year
of full-time study or the part-time equivalent.
Registered Nurses pathway - internal or external
mode
This pathway is for registered nurses who wish to upgrade
their qualifications to a university degree. Applicants must
be eligible for registration with a nurses' registration authority
in Australia or licensed to practise as a registered nurse
in their own country or country of residence. Single registration
Psychiatric and Mental Deficiency nurses may apply, but will
not be able to gain Registered General Nurse status with the
Nurses Board of South Australia as a result of completing
this course.
Re-entry pathway - internal mode only
This pathway is for registered nurses required to complete
a re-entry program because they have not worked as a registered
general nurse for the past five years. Applicants must provide
evidence that they have completed a course leading to registration
as a general nurse and have practised as a registered general
nurse during the past 15 years.
One pathway within the undergraduate Bachelor
of Nursing is designed for registered midwives. It requires
one year of full-time study or the part-time equivalent.
Registered Midwife pathway - Internal mode
only
This pathway is an accelerated program for gradues of the
Bachelor of Midwifery (Prer-Registration). Applicants must
provide a copy of their current midwifery practising certificate
with their application. Applicants must not be registered
as a general nurse, or be eligible for registration as a general
nurse.

UNIVERSITY OF TASMANIA
BACHELOR OF NURSING
The Bachelor of Nursing course is offered
in the three optional modes:
1: Three years full time
2: Two and a half years with one full fee
paying summer school*
3: Two years HECS/with an additional two
full fee-paying summer schools.*
Each option is equivalent to six full-time
semesters.
This on-campus full-time course is offered at Launceston,
with the third year of the course available at Launceston,
Hobart and Burnie. The course length is a minimum of six semesters
full-time study with a maximum completion time of six years
depending on academic progression. Advanced standing pathways
are offered for psychiatric nurses and enrolled nurses to
upgrade their qualifications to a degree and at the same time
become eligible for registration as a nurse (comprehensive).
Nursing diplomates and nurses who have re-entered practice
also have the opportunity to undertake studies through advanced
standing pathways in Launceston. Students may have an opportunity
to study abroad and/or in clinical practicums offered interstate.
* Students wishing to enrol in the Summer
School program may be required to attend an interview
Admission & Prerequisites: Pre-Registration:
University admission. In addition, TCE subjects should include
English, Science and Humanities. Applicants applying for advanced
standing should have recent experience in nursing practice
and may be required to attend an interview.
Career Outcomes: Graduates may find employment
in many diverse healthcare settings including health centres,
hospitals, occupational health and industry, health promotion
and education, as well as rural and community settings. Graduates
may also pursue postgraduate opportunities in Nursing or other
related disciplines.
Articulation to/from Course: Students may
articulate from the Bachelor of Nursing to the Bachelor of
Nursing with Honours.
Professional Recognition: Graduates with
a Bachelor of Nursing and a current practising certificate
are eligible for employment in many other countries as well
as Australia.
